AKRON, OHIO – Akron Regional Air Quality Management District (ARAQMD), a service of Summit County Public Health (SCPH), is excited to announce their inaugural lawnmower exchange program – Mow GREENER.
Fossil fuel burning lawn maintenance equipment produces a significant amount of air pollution. According to the California Air Resources Board’s website, using a gasoline lawnmower for 1 hour is equal to driving a car for 300 miles! Battery powered lawn equipment are zero emission when used, and that makes cleaner air for users and their neighbors.
Mow GREENER will have participants surrender their otherwise working, gasoline (or diesel) lawnmower to be scrapped and bring proof of purchase of a brand new, battery powered lawnmower to the event to receive at $100 Visa gift card as a rebate from ARAQMD.
Mow GREENER is for residents (not lawn care companies) of Medina, Summit or Portage Counties (the ARAQMD service area) and participants must pre-register. This event is limited to 100 households, 1 rebate per household. Details on all the events, how to pre-register, and registration deadlines can be found at www.scph.org/air-quality/lawnmower-exchange.
Exchange events will run from 9:00am to 12:00pm each day and be held on the following dates:
 March 28, 2020 at Portage County Health Department, 705 Oakwood Street, Ravenna, OH 44266. Scrap services provided by Allen Alloys of Streetsboro.
